The Archetype of The Great Mother

“In Gnosticism, the way of salvation lies in heightening consciousness and returning to the transcendent spirit, with loss of the unconscious side; whereas uroboric salvation through the Great Mother demands the abandonment of the conscious principle and a homecoming to the unconscious.”
― Erich NeumannThe Origins and History of Consciousness

"The male experiences an element of the archetypal Feminine as the hole, abyss, void. Here the archetypal Feminine is experienced not as illusion and as maya but rather as unfathomable reality and as life in which above and below, spiritual and physical, are not pitted against each other; reality as eternity is creative and, at the same time, is grounded in primeval nothingness."

"The Orpheus motif of the magical taming of the animal energies through music belongs to her, for as mistress of the animals the Great Goddess rules the world of wild as well as tame creatures. She can transform things and people into animal form, tame the animal, and enchant it because, like music, she is able to make the tame wild and the wild tame with the power of her magic.”

Song: Great Mother's Milk

With this tune I went back to the roots of what inspired me to create musically: Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Led Zeppelin.

I wanted to capture the ripping jam I had been ending live shows with in 2015. This version compiles two takes from the basement band rehearsals, 2015, retaining the live guitar and drums.

While preserving the uncut, brutal rawness of this lysergic surge of sound, I later overdubbed the vocals, organ and bass.

For "Birth Certificate: The Basement Tapes" I have sourced all of my favorite, most memorable, most potent songs from the years 2011 through 2014. This culmination of many years worth of songwriting, comes together in a purposefully loose, raw and understated form.
